#FallingIntoWinter 7

🍁🍂🍃 FALL 🍃🍂🍁 out of love with lesser gods.

We Christians love to quote the verse about the two greatest commandments: 1) love God and 2) love your neighbor.

We routinely forget that it says, love your neighbor AS YOURSELF, which implies that you'll do terribly at loving others until you elevate your self-love.

What I have never heard mentioned in the context of these verses is that before stating the first commandment, Jesus reminds us that the Lord our God is One God.

First, before we can love the Lord, we have to know that He is the One and Only, the beginning and the end. There is no God and _____. God is it, the invocation and the benediction. God is the sunrise and the sunset, the moon, the stars, and everything in between.

Then, once we know that and have FALLen in love with His perfection, we can learn to love what He created.

God breathed His breath into us and the human became another speaking Spirit (thank you Reverend Kevin Wade). We are made in the likeness of the One Almighty God. The psalmist lumped us in with angels and God - elohim, plural. If you're like the hoteps and Beyoncé and you are trying to latch onto this idea that you're a god/goddess, I can't be overly mad at you.

The Lord your God is still One God above all others, including you, including that god/goddess you want to or already married who you want to reign with. We were commanded to fill the earth and subdue it, and we ought to. We just can't forget that there is a God who reigns much higher than we do.

It could be said that the two greatest commandments go together because FALLing in love with God is directly linked to understanding unity and FALLing in love with the image of God in each of us. 🍃🍁🍂
